Research-
Based Teaching means that the learners, teachers and
the curriculum apply research – based approach in the learning – teaching
process with an open outcome.
Categories
of Instructional Strategies
1. Setting Objectives
and Providing Feedback
- Provide students with a direction for
learning and information about how well they are performing relative to a
particular learning objective so they can improve their performance.
2. Reinforcing Effort
and Providing Recognition
- Provide students with
abstract tokens of recognition or praise for their accomplishments related to
the attainment of a goal.
3. Cooperative
Learning
- Provide students with opportunities to
interact with one another in ways that enable their learning.
4. Cues, Questions,
and Advance Organizers
- Enhance students’ ability to retrieve, use and organize what they
already know about the topic.
5. Non- linguistic
Representations
- Enhance student’s ability to represent and elaborate
on knowledge using mental images.
6. Summarizing and Note Taking
- Enhance student’s ability to synthesize information
and organize it in a way that captures the main idea and supporting details.
7. Assigning Homework and Providing Practice
- Enhance
student’s ability to reach the expected level of proficiency for a skill or
process.
8. Identifying Similarities and Differences
- Enhance students’ understanding of and ability to
use knowledge by engaging them in mental processes that involve identifying
ways in which items are alike and objectives.
9. Generating and Testing Hypotheses
- Enhance students’ understanding of and ability to
use knowledge by engaging them in mental processes that involve making and
testing hypotheses.
To help students learn for
mastery the teacher must ensure mastery by seeing to it that he/she
creates a positive learning atmosphere develops through understanding of the
lesson not only memory or recall and that he/she gives opportunities to
students to extend and apply their learning.
Reflection
We
all know that we are sons of the 21st digital century. We are very
much engaged with technologies and other materials offered by this current
century. Even our educational system is now experiencing technological
revolution from oral based to print based of learning.
In
this chapter, many ideas were added in my knowledge about research based
learning in the 21st learning century. I was overwhelmed with
bundles of informations I have gathered in this concept. I was able to find out
different learning strategies that enable me to meet my desired learning
environment. I have learned that in teaching, we should not depend on the old
way, the chalk and talk way but we should integrate learning that is interesting
and enjoyable.
I
should give feedbacks to the performances of my students for them to improve
what they need to improve. Also, I will provide students with tokens of
recognition for their accomplishments. I will also employ cooperation to each
and everyone to have an interaction between them. Next, I will provide
questions to enhance their ability to answer and their knowledge itself. I will
also provide different non-linguistic representations for them to exercise
their mental abilities especially, generating mental images. I will exploit
summarizing and note taking for their ideas to be converted from complex to
easy to understand manner. I will also provide home works for the students to
stay the information at a longer range. I will also identify individual’s
similarities and differences. Lastly, I will enhance student’s understanding by
giving them the opportunity to generate and test their hypotheses. These are
the things that I have gathered in Chapter 5 research – based and learning in
the 21st century.
I am going to apply these in my future needs
by conducting several activities that would lead them to accurate and great
learning. These are the categories that will help mould students to achieve
learning and outcome if these strategies are utilized inside the classroom. I
will create positive ambiance that develops understanding of the lesson not
only using the memories but giving them the opportunity to apply their learning
as well. Accompanying them with these
strategies, they will learn how to break complex manner to easy to understand
thought. This is the process of converting and compressing information that
makes idea shorten, yet understandable one.
I will utilize my
skills, talent and wit in imparting my knowledge about the things they are
needed to know. Learning is not just talking and absorbing everything what had
been said but it is making every learning visible and feasible.
